As far as introductions to characters go, The Innocent sets a lot of ground work for the following novels in the Will Robie series. Robie must now fight to protect his life, uncover the truth behind the mission he was sent to do, and also keep safe a teenage orphan he encounters while evading attempts at his own life. Against his better judgement, Robie refuses to pull the trigger, and the target escapes unharmed. Due to the nature of the job, alarm bells go off in Robie’s mind, as he is not used to doing such jobs in a place so close to home. The Innocent begins with Will Robie being assigned a mission to eliminate a target in Washington DC. The first book to feature the character of Will Robie is The Innocent, which was released in October, 2012 by David Baldacci. In some of the books, he is joined by Jessica Reel, another agent with the same firm and the pair work together. Not only is Robie a highly trained sniper, he also has training in close quarters combat. To get into this job, he had to sever all ties in his hometown with everyone he knew and loved to start his new job, and he did without issue. Will Robie works as someone who the government calls on when they encounter a ruthless subject that no one, not even the FBI or any other federal agent can control.
